Rüsselsheim. The second-generation Opel Movano grows in size and range coverage, thereby raising the bar in the European light commercial vehicle segment with a new large van platform. It introduces a host of innovative technologies, a superbly comfortable and practical interior, competitively low fuel consumption and best-in-class operating costs. The practical multi-talented van’s design clearly identifies it as a member of the new, highly decorated Opel product generation that includes the Insignia and Astra. The new Movano will be launched across Europe this spring.

The new Opel Movano provides a wider selection of body variants than most of the competition, offering a model for nearly every customer-specific utility profile. The range includes panel vans, available in four vehicle lengths and three roof heights, platform, chassis, crew cabs and combi versions. The modular platform, developed jointly with Renault, comes with either front- or rear-wheel drive. Rear-wheel drive variants can be ordered with dual rear wheels. The gross vehicle weight range has been increased to up to 4,5t with payloads up to 2.5t. Opel is also working with a wide range of approved conversion specialists to provide even more options through Opel Commercial Vehicle Dealerships.

The new Opel Movano cab is extremely comfortable and offers a host of practical features. These include excellent levels of visibility, multi-adjustable seats that can be configured in various ways and an ergonomically optimized steering column position that enables relaxed driving on long journeys.

Comprehensive standard equipment is complemented by innovative options like cornering lights, a center seat back that folds into a work surface and a rotating laptop table. Numerous easy-to-reach storage compartments round off the Movano’s superbly practical use of space.

The cargo areas of the various model panel van variants offer best-in-class roof height and cargo capacity, with load length extending up to 4.4 meters and load capacity up to 17 cubic meters (L4H3 version). Front-wheel drive variants feature low sill heights, while all models offer side sliding and rear doors with large apertures to ease loading and unloading of cargo.

An all-new generation of four-cylinder common-rail diesel engines (2.3 l CDTI) ensures lively performance and low operating costs. The engine ranges cover 74 kW/100 hp/285 Nm, 92 kW/125 hp/310 Nm and 110 kW/150 hp/350 Nm. All engines are available to meet both Euro 4 and Euro 5 norms. Euro 5 specification comes with a diesel particulate filter. All three engines have a six-speed transmission as standard, while the two more powerful units can be coupled with the Easytronic automated manual transmission.

The new Opel Movano also sets standards in terms of economy. It boasts the lowest fuel consumption and emissions in its segment (from 7.8 l/100 km /203 g CO2/km) and is thus the ideal choice in countries with taxation based on CO2. Depending on model and engine type, the very low fuel consumption allows ranges of more than 1,300 kilometers.

The Movano‘s low operating costs are also a result of reduced service and maintenance costs with longer inspection intervals.

The Opel Movano’s advanced chassis is tuned for agile handling and comfortable suspension both when it is loaded and unloaded. Its state-of-the-art active and passive safety equipment includes ABS brakes with electronic brake force distribution (EBD) as standard in all model variants. The electronic stability program ESP is also standard in all models with rear-wheel drive. ESP is optional on front-wheel drive versions.

The new Opel Movano launch begins with panel van versions from spring 2010, with other variants introduced throughout the year.
